Insurance, Documentation & Wildfire Hardening

How documented CitroSafe systems, seasonal perimeter / defensible-space treatments, Class A roofs, CitroTech 34 lumber coatings, Peak 301, SolEmber, and Fire&Ice vents can support a conversation about keeping or saving a current policy — and still matter if you self-insure. No guaranteed discounts or coverage promises.

Partnership

WOWS Insurance LLC × CitroTech

CitroTech partnered with WOWS Insurance LLC for holistic wildfire risk and insurance solutions that combine fire hardening, proactive mitigation, and remotely activated systems — aimed at improving access to affordable coverage in high-risk zones (including the 3 million-plus California homes in that context, as described by CitroTech).

This page is educational. Reliable Roofing San Diego does not sell insurance and cannot promise coverage approval or premium changes. Named here only: WOWS Insurance LLC (CitroTech partnership) and the California FAIR Plan. We do not invent other carrier names.

Who this helps

Keep a current policy — or document if you self-insure

Many carriers in California and the West weigh mitigation evidence when they decide whether to keep or write coverage. Public reporting notes some carriers ask about long-term inhibitors and CitroSafe-type systems; CitroTech has said it is working toward underwriting recognition. That is evolving — not a guaranteed discount.

Keep or save a current policy

Bring a dated file to your broker: perimeter / vegetation / defensible-space treatments, CitroSafe coverage if installed, Peak 301 / SolEmber / Fire&Ice if applied, and product docs. The goal is a clearer underwriting conversation about staying on a current policy — not a promised rate cut.

Also for those who self-insure

If you carry the risk yourself, the same packet is a practical record of what you did at the perimeter and in defensible space. Risk reduction — not a guarantee against wildfire damage.

Bring evidence

Documentation checklist

Carriers and brokers assess evidence — whether you are keeping a current policy or self-insuring. Keep a dated file:

  • Dated photos of defensible space, treated vegetation (perimeter), and roofline / hardware as applicable
  • Product docs: EPA Safer Choice, UL GREENGUARD Gold, third-party tests (available on request)
  • Treatment dates, areas covered, and certified-partner applicator details
  • If CitroSafe installed: coverage description, activation method, independence from municipal water
  • If Peak 301 Roof Rejuvenation applied (certified installer): dated asphalt-shingle treatment record and Peak 301 product notes (fire-spread figures only as Peak 301 publishes them — not a FAIR Plan line item or Class A equivalent)
  • If SolEmber™ installed (certified installer): solar-array mesh coverage notes and manufacturer listings (ASTM E2886 / E84 / E2768 as published by Nixalite — not an insurance guarantee)
  • If O’Hagin Fire&Ice® vents installed (certified installer): vent locations and product docs. O’Hagin does not guarantee products prevent wildfire damage.
  • If a Class A roof was installed or re-roofed: covering type, date, and photos. Class A is the roof covering’s fire classification — not a wildfire survival guarantee and not an automatic FAIR Plan line item unless the carrier confirms.
  • If CitroTech 34 (MFB-34) lumber coating applied: treatment dates, wood members coated, TER 2504-101 / ASTM E84 and E2768 as published by CitroTech. This Class A is the wood treatment’s surface-burning classification — not a Class A roof covering.

Structure hardening alongside the perimeter

Reliable Wildfire Defense (operated by Reliable Roofing San Diego) is Peak 301 / O’Hagin / SolEmber certified and also offers Class A roofs and CitroTech 34 lumber coatings under the CitroTech Certified Partner line. These measures complement CitroSafe™ systems and seasonal perimeter / defensible-space spray. They do not replace those paths or guarantee a wildfire outcome or a FAIR Plan / insurance result.

Roof covering

Class A roof install / re-roof

A Class A fire-rated roof covering is the highest common external-fire classification for roof assemblies. Reliable Roofing San Diego installs and re-roofs with Class A coverings to help protect the home by protecting the roof from external fire exposure.

Class A here is the roof covering’s fire classification — not a wildfire survival guarantee, not an automatic FAIR Plan discount, not CitroTech 34 lumber coating, and not a substitute for CitroSafe, seasonal perimeter spray, Peak 301, SolEmber, or Fire&Ice vents.

California nuance

FAIR Plan / Safer from Wildfires

The FAIR Plan offers stacked wildfire-hardening discounts for qualifying structure, surroundings, and community measures (for example Class A roof, vents, Zone 0) — typically applied to the wildfire portion of premium.

What hardening discounts cover

Qualifying physical measures defined by the FAIR Plan / Safer from Wildfires framework. Confirm current eligibility with your broker.

What we do not claim

CitroSafe or seasonal spray does not automatically equal a FAIR Plan discount line item unless your carrier confirms. Frame spray, CitroSafe, and Peak 301 Roof Rejuvenation as supporting documentation and risk reduction alongside those hardening measures — not as Class A roof equivalence.

Industry direction

Evolving underwriting

Public reporting indicates some carriers ask about long-term inhibitors and CitroSafe-type systems. CitroTech has said it is working toward underwriting recognition and has discussed discount pricing with insurers.

Phrase this as evolving — not a guaranteed discount on your policy.

Disclaimer

No guarantee of coverage approval, premium reduction, or wildfire outcome. Mitigation products and services are risk-reduction tools. Always follow evacuation orders. Insurance decisions rest with carriers, brokers, and the FAIR Plan — not with Reliable Roofing San Diego or this website.
